Dying to Live

For since we have become one with him in dying as he did, in the same way we shall be one with him by being raised to life as he was. -Romans 6:5 (GNT)

When I first starting getting serious about changing in a twelve step fellowship I belong to, I read that it had to begin with the destruction of the awful self-centered nature that was the root of my trouble and causing me the most grief. That part of me (the human 'flesh nature') had to go. Running the show, thinking of myself as the center of the universe-- it all had to cease being my mode of operating. I had to die in my Higher Power, Jesus, and be raised to life in Him afterward. Every time I confess my sin and repent of it, I die once again to the "self of the flesh" and rise in Christ to seize the day, be glad in it and serve Him with joy.

A New Year of Possibilities!

2012 has arrived and with it (I hope and pray) a new attitude on my part and perhaps my wife's, as well.  I have resolved to surrender to my compulsive over-eating (which is ushering me toward insulin), get in better physical shape and get active in a Bible-based Church.  It has been a while since I have had a regular place of worship and I know it would do me a lot of good by bringing me closer to the Lord. Romans 8:28 King James Version (KJV)   28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Wanting To Do The Right Thing

We love because he first loved us. - 1 John 4:19 (NIV) This morning, I picked up my wife's copy of a devotional publication she receives called Our Daily Bread . In today's reading, the author talks about a children's ministry where the kids are rewarded for their good behavior with prizes. One boy, who is offered a reward for behaving well, refuses it and says that he behaves well because he wants to and doesn't need a prize for doing as he wishes. When we love God, we wish to please Him. We should all strive to be like that young boy in the story and do the right thing because we want to, expecting nothing in return. Of course, the hard part is that, as believers in Christ, we know there's a reward! So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. -2 Corinthians 5:9 (NIV)

Update

As you can see, I've been remiss in posting to this blog.  I have, however, been busy with my other blog at http://scriptureliving.blogspot.com and hope you will take the time to check it out.  Please check my page about the Apocrypha, as I'll be posting some interesting stuff there very soon...
